The ITI Education Week Hong Kong at the University of Hong Kong/Prince Philip Dental Hospital has managed to secure itself a strong and respected place in the implant dentistry education landscape of the Asia Pacific region and beyond. As the course director, Prof. Dr. Niklaus Lang was responsible for launching and shaping this popular annual seven-day course that has attracted more than 200 participants from 30 countries in the last four years.

As of 2013, Associate Professor Dr. Nikos Mattheos, Professor Lang’s successor at the Faculty of Dentistry, will take over responsibility for its running.  He commented on this year’s course “We have an excellent program and a multinational faculty that includes Professor Bjarni Pjetursson and Dr. Rino Burkhardt. I am especially happy that Niklaus Lang will remain on board as a speaker.”

Since 2009, the International Team for Implantology (ITI) has been running continuing education courses in implant dentistry in cooperation with seven selected academic institutions worldwide. The four- to seven-day courses, known as ITI Education Weeks, offer practitioners the possibility to broaden their knowledge in implant dentistry while observing and working together with leading experts in the field.

Run under the title “Comprehensive Care with Dental Implants”, this year the ITI Education Week Hong Kong will take place from September 8 to 14. It offers insight into comprehensive treatment planning that takes into consideration the needs of each patient in terms of esthetics and function under healthy conditions. Great emphasis is placed on patient maintenance and mastering prevention and management of biological and technical complications.

Like the ITI’s other courses, the Hong Kong Education Week includes lecture and discussion sessions, live surgical and prosthetic sessions as well as university-based continuing education (CE) credits. Hands-on exercises are also part of the curriculum in order to develop the necessary skills for advanced procedures. Bone augmentation and sinus floor elevation using piezoelectric surgery and  modern materials will also be practiced.

The ITI is an independent academic organization dedicated to advancing knowledge in the field of implant dentistry and bringing this knowledge to a growing audience. All continuing education courses offered by the ITI reflect the organization’s educational message and philosophy of evidence-based treatment for predictable and successful outcomes.
